Storytelling and sound-scaping to support memory and recall for older people in care homes.
Working in partnership with local care homes Somerset Care and The Barchester Group, Sound Store is a pilot programme that sets out to address the challenges faced by older people in care settings during the pandemic.
Sessions provide opportunities to reminisce and capture memories through sound exploration and storytelling. They are fun and creative and also help to maintain cognitive ability. But above all else they create a sense of belonging and connectivity at a time of prolonged periods of uncertainty and isolation.
Through large group activities as well as intimate and personalised programmes of engagement for 1 or 2 participants, the sessions have provided opportunities for meaningful social interactions and relationship development between participants, their families and care home staff.

Residents Olivia and Lyn enjoying a virtual music therapy session run by Evolve Music. They sang and danced in their chairs and very much enjoyed the session. Both ladies are looking forward to next week, the sessions are beneficial, captivating and great fun
It was such a positive experience for residents - hugely beneficial and enjoyable. They were very uplifted after the session. They were singing as they came out of the session and that went on for most of the day. The interaction of the stories and music worked brilliantly
