Early Years Workforce Development

Sound Explorers
Our Early Years Workforce Development programme is called Sound Explorers.
Through Sound Explorers we support all aspects of child development through interactive activities including singing, movement, percussion and games, with a particular focus on early years children with SEN/D.
Alongside the direct benefits Sound Explorers has for early years children, we work alongside early years settings to embed music and sound activity and exploration into the culture of the whole setting. We do this by modelling activities and environments, sharing ideas, resources, training, mentoring and building the confidence of the early years team.
Sound Explorers aims to
- increase children’s social interaction and self confidence.
- improve children’s concentration, memory and developing creativity
- improve children’s communication and sensory development
- increase confidence and practical knowledge of staff in early years settings to facilitate music for children including those with SEN/D.
Sound Explorers was first delivered in partnership in 2021 and 22 with Plymouth Music Education Hub, Plymouth City Council (Education, Participation & Skills), Woodfield Primary School and Greenshoots Preschool and the University of Plymouth.
