Evolve Music Awarded Youth Music Catalyser Funding to Launch Sound Lab+

Evolve Music is thrilled to announce it has been awarded Youth Music Catalyser funding.

This grant will support the delivery of Sound Lab+, an innovative music-making programme designed for neurodivergent young people aged 14-25 in Somerset and its surrounding counties.

Sound Lab+ builds on Evolve Music’s successful track record of providing inclusive, open-access music-making opportunities. This three-year programme will offer over 130 core music-making sessions, bespoke development workshops, and opportunities to showcase young people’s talents. Through Sound Lab+, Evolve Music aims to empower 300 neurodivergent young people by fostering creativity, self-confidence and social connection.

“Neurodivergent young people in rural communities face unique challenges, from social isolation to limited access to inclusive opportunities,” said Evolve Music’s executive director, Annette Burghes. “Sound Lab+ is designed to address these barriers, providing a safe space for young people to explore and develop their musical talents.”

The funding will also enable Evolve Music to train community musicians, increase the representation of neurodivergent facilitators and publish an Inclusive Community Music Guide to inspire best practices nationwide.
